Coach Jimmy Owens brings over 35 years of extensive experience in thesport of swimming. His career began in 1977 and spanned two distinctperiods, during which he worked as a Swim Instructor, Lifeguard poolmanager, and later as a Coach. Notably, Coach Jim's coaching journeystarted with the Simi Valley Swim Team (SVST) under the tutelage of HeadCoach Ingrid Daland, a former Olympian. His dedication and expertise led himto become the Head Age Group Coach for the program and later secure theAssistant Coach position at Royal High School in 1982. His coaching prowesswas further recognized when he assumed the role of head Coach at SimiValley High School in 1989.

Coach Jim's contributions to the sport have been widely acknowledged, withnotable accolades such as being elected as a USA-Section All-Star Coachfive times, including one nomination as Head Coach. Additionally, he washonored twice by the Marmonte High School League as Coach of the Year,reflecting his exceptional leadership and coaching abilities.After a period away from the sport, Coach Jimmy rekindled his passion forcoaching in August 2018 when he joined the staff at Paseo Aquatics.His recent achievements include guiding three athletes to be ranked in theSouthern California Swimming (SCS) top 10 (10 and Under category).Multiple Junior Olympic (JO) qualifiers, and having several athletes selectedto prestigious events such as the SCS All-Stars Festivals.WAG Qualifiers, and Western Zones Select. Notably, he served as anAssistant Coach for the Western Zone Select team in 2021.

In previous years, Coach Jim has also achieved significant milestonesnationally, including mentoring 2 Junior National Level Athletes from CSA.Conejo Swim Associateion.Also Coaching Multiple Sectional Level Athletes, and numerous JO Qualifiers.His impact is further underscored by his five-time role as an SCS All-StarCoach and once as Head Coach for this prestigious honor.
